It was in the afternoon, three caterpillars were having fun eating the leaves while joking playfully.
Suddenly, their conversation stopped when they saw a beautiful butterfly flying over them. And butterfly perched on a leaf gracefully, not far from the branch where all three of the caterpillars were assembled.
Right away, one of the caterpillar begin a conversation.
Caterpillar 1 : “Hey, isn’t she beautiful…”
Caterpillar 2 : “Indeed..really graceful… and she has bright color, too…”
Caterpillar 3 : “Can we be like her?”
Hearing the three caterpillars were gossiping about her, the butterfly immediately came with a smile. The three caterpillars were surprised and immediately asked her.
Caterpillar 1 : “Who are you?”
Butterfly : “I’m a butterfly.”
Caterpillar 2 : “You have beautiful color…”
Butterfly replied with a friendly smile, ”Once, I was like you…”.
Hearing this, these three caterpillars were instantly surprised, and asked simultaneously, “Just like us?”.
Butterfly : “Yes, just like you all, a caterpillar, then after going through a long process, I then turn into a chrysalis. After some time in cocoons, I then turned into a butterfly”.
The butterfly went away after giving the explanation.
Hearing the explanation of the butterfly, the three caterpillars were also determined to be a butterfly. Although in the process to become a butterfly, the three caterpillars have their own way.
Caterpillar 1 said, ”I have to train hard so I can quickly become a beautiful butterfly.”
Caterpillar 2 said, “I have to eat a lot, so then later when I was in the cocoon I will not die of hunger.”
While caterpillar 3 said, “I would eat in my proportion, and I’m going to live regularly.”
Over time, these three caterpillars then becomes a cocoon.
Day after day was passed with patience, the three were wrapped in cocoons for 2-3 weeks. After 2-3 weeks, eventually the cocoons was one by one began to open.
Caterpillar 1 opened slowly, and a bit weak, due to the rigors of struggle without eating regularly, causing him to grow into a thin and small butterfly. He had difficulty even just to flap his wings.
Ulat 2 terbuka juga dengan sedikit pelan, karena dia makan terlalu banyak sebelum menjadi seekor kepompong sehingga menyebabkan dia cukup sesak didalam kulit kepompong tersebut, sangking besar tubuhnya. Dan untuk mengepakkan sayapnya dia cukup kuat, tapi sayang, agak sulit baginya untuk terbang dan menyanggah badannya yang cukup besar.
Caterpillar 2 opened also a little slowly, because he ate too much before he became a cocoon, causing him to be quite cramped inside the cocoon, because of his large body. He is strong enough to flap his wings, but unfortunately, it was difficult for him to fly because his body is quite large.
While caterpillar 3, opened majestically, slowly but surely. His fur is growing beautifully. And when he flapped his wings, he can fly beautifully and freely.
Friends, from the story above, we can draw conclusions.
Butterflies are like a Buddhist. Caterpillars are like Buddhists.
Anyone can become a Buddhist and have the seeds of Buddha in him. If developed as regular as that regular meditation and good karma that he has, does not rule out the possibility that he could become a Buddhist.
But when done too hard / too loose / too greedy, the results obtained would not be a maximum, just like caterpillar 1 and 2.
